Our Role in Planning
The Civic Society is a statutory consultee on major planning applications. Our Planning Committee meets every three weeks to review lists of new applications submitted to the Local Council.
We are not opposed to change; rather, we champion high-quality change. We support contemporary design where it is sensitive to its context, sustainable, and well-executed.

May 15, 2024
We have objected to the proposed height of Block C, which would impact views from the Historic Quarter. We also raised concerns about the lack of active frontage onto the river path.

While supporting the principle of housing here, we have submitted comments regarding the density and the need for better cycle links to the city center.

The Society strongly supports the proposals to pedestrianize the station forecourt, which will create a much better arrival experience for visitors.
