A Steward for Generic City's Built Environment
Generic City is a city of exceptional beauty and history, but it faces modern challenges. The Civic Society exists to ensure that as our city evolves, it does so in a way that respects its past and enhances its future.
We are an independent, non-political charity run entirely by volunteers. We review planning applications, campaign for better public spaces, and celebrate excellence in local design through our annual awards.

Our Core Priorities
We focus our efforts where we can make the most significant impact on Generic City's environment.
We scrutinize hundreds of planning applications each year, providing expert feedback to the Council to ensure new developments are appropriate for their context.
We act as a conduit for public opinion on major schemes, holding public meetings and surveys to ensure residents' views are heard by decision-makers.
From the Historic Quarter to the Market Square, we campaign to protect historic buildings at risk and promote the maintenance of our unique streetscapes.

Society Response to The Town Centre Redevelopment Proposals
The Civic Society has submitted a detailed response to the latest consultation on the Town Centre site, raising concerns about building heights and river corridor access.

Nominations Open for 2024 Civic Society Design Awards
We are now accepting nominations for new buildings, conservation projects, and public space improvements completed in the last two years.
